Is parenting harder than you thought?

Parenting doesn’t always turn out the way we thought it would, and that was certainly the case for me. When my husband and I decided to become parents, we had a lot of ideas about the “right” way to do it and we dove in with enthusiasm. We altered our lifestyle so that I could be at home mostly full time with the kids, relying minimally on child care outside our home. We involved the kids in church groups, scouting, sports and other “wholesome” activities. We were certain that if we were just firm and loving while providing the best opportunities for our children, everything would go swimmingly. Then reality reared it’s ugly head…..

We found ourselves in the most difficult challenge of our lives. Our kids were highly-spirited, highly intelligent, and very intense….the kind of children people call difficult. I read a lot of parenting books and tried a lot of discipline methods. Many of them seemed to bring about improvement — briefly. Then our children discovered where to find the loopholes, flaws, or illogic in the method, and intensity was quickly back to running the show.

Somewhere along the line, I stumbled upon Nurtured Heart Approach®. I read a book about it, and It seemed to make sense, so I began trying it. I saw evidence that it was working, but with just a book to guide me, I wasn’t up to the task. You see, NHA, while it is simple to learn and remember, is not initially easy to fully understand, and it’s not always easy to implement. The fact is, it is so different from traditional discipline methods, that deep down I lacked the confidence to dive all-in. I quickly went back to doing more of what I already knew, and kept getting the same (bad) results.

Fast forward to the teen years
Things were going the wrong way, fast! Nothing I was trying was working, and I realized I had no time to waste continuing to try more of the same. Radical action was needed! I recalled my earlier dabbling in Nurtured Heart Approach, and I instinctively knew that it held the key to turning things around with my children. This time I did it the right way. I found a therapist who was also a skilled practitioner of NHA, and with her help, my husband and I began practicing it like our children’s lives depended on it. It turned out that my instinct was correct. Not only did things improve, our lives were transformed! That is the power of NHA.

With the coaching I received, I was able to implement the Nurtured Heart Approach in all aspects of my life, including my business, adult family members, and friends. Once I got it, I got it, and I loved the way it transformed my relationships. I loved it so much that I became a Certified Advanced Trainer and now it’s my mission to share it with as many people as I can.

Not everyone will need a therapist to help them learn NHA, but many of us could benefit from a guide, and sometimes a little bit of support is just the thing you need to get you going in the right direction. I would love to be your guide! I bring my years of experience using NHA in my own life, in my business, and in coaching others and come along side you as you grow into a deeper understanding of how to implement this truly transformational approach to your life and your relationships.
